FAQ

What is the purpose of this list?

Moving to a new neighborhood requires having local references of people you can trust. We are drowned in advertisements and flyers from various companies. I have made many mistakes hiring contractors, handymen, plumbers, etc. using those with varying experiences. Just at a recent party, we were sharing references. I would now like to help out my neighbors by sharing what I learned. Hoping this also gets more business to the tradesmen I enjoy working with.

Why only San Carlos and Belmont?

Local code familiarity matters. Tradesmen who regularly work in a particular city tend to know the permit expectations, inspection patterns, and the kinds of issues that show up in the housing stock. San Carlos and Belmont can be very different from San Jose or San Francisco.

This information is available on Yelp, Thumbtack, etc. what’s different?

They are great resources. Online reviews can be managed, faked, and are not verified. Thumbtack charges tradesmen on every message you send. A lot of good local tradesmen are also not on those services. I have found some good tradesmen there, but this is a more curated and local list.

How do you verify providers?

I add providers after checking local homeowner references. For licensed trades, I review license information and other public records when relevant. Each provider profile shows the license details I have published and a last verified month.

How do I get on this list?

To get on this list, you will need to provide 3 references in the San Carlos/Belmont area. We will then contact you to verify your license. After license verification, we will connect with your references and verify. Fill out the form here to get started: Get added to the list!

How do I submit a reference?

If you like working with a tradesman, this is a great opportunity to help fellow neighbors. Share the information of the tradesman and the project you hired them for. Include the things you liked about working with them and help out your community. Fill out the form here: Reference

How We Verify

Providers are added based on local homeowner references. For licensed trades, I review license information and other public records when relevant, and each profile shows the published license details plus a last verified month. Listings are not paid placements.
